Step 1. Create your Highlight

If you don’t have any Story Highlights yet, then you will see the gray circles under your bio.

As it was mentioned earlier, Instagram provides you with two ways how to create Instagram Story Highlights.

So, you can create a Highlight from your current Story or archived Stories.

If you choose the second option, it means that you need to turn on the auto-archiving feature. Generally, it is enabled by default, however, if you notice that your Stories are not saved, then you can easily turn this function on.

To do this, click on the “Menu” icon in the top-right corner of your screen, open the “Settings” section, tap on “Privacy” and then “Story”. After that scroll down until you will see “Save to archive” and switch the toggle on.

Once your Stories archive is set up, you may go ahead and create your first Highlight.

Firstly, let’s see how to create a Highlight by adding your current Story to it. In this case, you need to open your recently uploaded Instagram Story. Then tap on the “highlight” icon with a heart at the bottom of your Story’s screen.

If you want to add archived Stories to your Highlight, then you need to go to your profile and tap on the “+” symbol in the Story Highlights section. In the new window, choose the Stories you want to show in your Highlight and click on the “Next” button.

Step 2. Name your Highlight

When you are creating the first Highlight from your current Story, then in the “New Highlight” pop-up window enter a name for your Highlight and click on the “Add” button.

Step 3. Choose the cover photo for your Highlight

Now it’s time to pick the cover photo for your Story Highlight.

When you create your new Highlight from the recently uploaded Story, the cover photo will be this Story’s image. Most probably, the image will not be aligned favorably. In this case, it is recommended to click on “Edit Cover” and then reposition your image.

If you choose the second option and add Stories from the archive, you have an opportunity to select a thumbnail from one of your Stories in your Highlight or you may upload an attractive image from your camera roll in order to keep your overall Instagram aesthetic.
