YouTube still drives a lot of traffic to businesses to this day. Many businesses were built only by getting free traffic from YouTube. If you decided to create YouTube videos, you need to create and setup the perfect YouTube channel first. As it should be attractive and appealing to your potential viewers.
I will share with you 4 simple steps how to create and setup the perfect YouTube channel right now!
Let’s get started!
1. Create and register a YouTube channel
Firstly, you will need to register your new YouTube channel. If you already have YouTube channel then proceed to the next step.
In order to create YouTube channel, you will need to have a Google account first (as YouTube is owned by Google). If you don’t have Google account, then go to youtube.com, click “Sign in”, then press on “More options” and press “Create account”.
If you already use any of Google products (Gmail, Google+, etc.), then it means that you have a Google account and you just should go to youtube.com and press “Sign in”.
Once you logged in you will see a drop-down menu. At the bottom of drop-down menu click on “Settings”, then you will be taken to Account overview page. There you will find an option to “Create a new channel”. Then you’ll just need to enter your channel name and that’s it, you are ready to start customizing it.

2. Fill in the “About” section and contact details
After your YouTube channel has been created, you will need to fill out your “About” section.
Channel’s description section gives you a chance to present yourself and tell people why you are here on YouTube. It has a 1000-character limit, so you can get creative here. Try to describe your brand or present yourself (if you run a personal brand) and inform users what kind of videos they can expect from you if they subscribe to your YouTube channel.
Just make sure to pay right attention to the “About” section, as many users that will come to check your channel will see it. Make your “About” description perfect.
Don’t forget to add your location and e-mail address which will be shown to your viewers if they would like to reach you for business inquiries.
Also, in this section you can include links to your website and other social media accounts. We highly recommend adding all of those links (of course if you have a website and accounts on other social media networks) because it will help you to get more free traffic and more exposure from YouTube.
3. Add profile picture and channel art cover
Profile picture and channel art cover represents your channel the most. Profile picture is displayed to other users near your username whenever you post a comment, under your uploaded video, etc. Channel art cover is displayed at the top of your channel and it is seen every time someone visits your channel.
You should notice that your channel art cover is blank and there is a clear button asking you to “Add channel art”. And that’s what we are going to do!
Once you click on that link, you will see option to upload a custom designed channel art. Also, YouTube gives you an option to upload one of their stock pictures from the “Gallery” but we wouldn’t recommend doing that because you need to make your channel art unique and as attractive as possible.
Our suggestion would be to check out other popular creators in your niche and you will get some ideas what picture to choose for your cover photo. Make your cover photo uniquely designed and high resolution which would represent your channel’s topic the best.
After you upload a cover photo, you will be able to crop it so it would fit your cover the best. You will also be able to preview it on different resolutions to make sure that it looks great on all devices!
Keep in mind that YouTube’s recommended cover photo size is 2560 x 1440 pixels. But if your picture doesn’t fit these dimensions, don’t worry as you will be able to preview your cover on different devices so it would look great.
And there’s a one quick tip: safe area to add your brand’s slogan, other text or taglines are within 1546 x 423 pixels. So be sure that everything you want viewers to see fits in that area.
For profile picture it is recommended to upload a picture of yourself from shoulders to the top (your profile) or if it’s a brand’s channel then we recommend to upload a logo of your company.
YouTube’s recommended size for profile picture is 800 x 800 pixels. But remember (especially if you are uploading a brand’s logo with a text) that profile picture mostly appears as a circle image to other users, so make sure that important pieces of your picture are not cropped out.

Remember, that video content is the thing that your whole YouTube channel holds on to. Without video content YouTube channel won’t be interesting to no one, even if it has the most beautiful channel art and the most amazing description. So, commit to create videos consistently and make them high quality.
For your first video we would suggest to create YouTube channel’s trailer. In this video you should present yourself/your brand, explain what you offer and what kind of content can viewers expect from your channel. Make it short (under 60 seconds) and eye-catching, as by viewing your channel’s trailer people may decide whether to watch other videos on your channel or not.
So, the key takeaway here is to make a strong & positive impression, so that viewers would come back to check for more. Once your video trailer has been created and uploaded, you can start of thinking topics for your new videos.
