Instagram dark mode is great feature that has been introduced just recently. Instagram dark mode allows you to use Instagram at the night-time, saves battery life & reduces eye-strain.
It is a great feature to use if you are constantly scrolling through Instagram at night and you want to keep your eyes healthy. Dark mode reduces eye strain because of the reduced glare.
If you are low on battery, it is also recommended to switch to the dark mode because black pixels consume less of your battery energy.
Basically, what Instagram dark mode does is it changes the background color from white to black and text is displayed in white color (instead of black).
In this article you are going to learn how to enable Instagram dark mode on your Android device. iPhone users may follow this guide too as it is pretty much the same.

What you need to know about Instagram dark mode
Firstly, I would like to note that you can’t enable dark mode directly through your Instagram settings. You will need to do this by tweaking your phone device’s settings first. By setting your phone to dark mode, Instagram will automatically be displayed in dark mode too.
Secondly, to enable dark mode on Instagram you will need to have updated operating system (Android). You need to have at least Android 10, so if you haven’t updated Android for a long time, then you will need to do that first. If you are using iPhone device, then you will need to have at least iOS 13.
How to enable Instagram Dark mode on Android device?
Follow the steps below to enable Instagram dark mode:
- Go to your phone settings. That’s right, phone settings (not Instagram);
- Go to “Display & brightness”;
- Here you will see a tab named “Dark mode”. Turn it on. Please note that on some devices dark mode may be called “Night mode”. Done!
Now open up Instagram and it will be displayed in the dark mode. You may also notice that several other apps will be displayed in dark mode too (if those apps have enabled such option).
If you are using iPhone, you can follow the same steps by going to Settings -> “Display & brightness” -> “Dark”.
