Twitter is a great platform to use for personal or business marketing purposes. However, what if your Twitter account was created long time ago and now you see that username you chose doesn’t represent you or your activity anymore?
I have great news for you! You can change your Twitter username easy & quickly!
Let’s get started!
How to change Twitter username?

Your Twitter profile username (also referred as handle) can be changed in no-time. If you change your Twitter username, all people will instantly see new username next to your profile picture.
Changing your Twitter username won’t affect your current followers, chat history, content, etc., however, I would suggest to inform your followers about the recent username change so they wouldn’t need to guess who is who!
If you would like to change your Twitter username, follow the steps below:
- Go to Twitter and login to your profile;
- Click on your profile picture on the right upper side of the screen, dropdown menu will appear;
- From the dropdown menu, select “Settings and privacy”;
- Select “Account” tab and just type in your new username in the “Username” field. Keep in mind that your username can be up to 15 characters long;
- Click “Save”.
Done! Your account will be seen by the new username from now on. Remember, that your followers won’t be automatically notified about your username change, so, you should inform them by yourself.
Also, if you have verified Twitter profile with the checkmark next to your username, then you will lose your verification badge after changing it. You will need to apply for a new one afterwards.

What is the difference between username (handle) & display name?

Note that changing your username won’t change your display name, as these are two different things.
Your Twitter username appears in your profile URL link, is used in tagging “@username“, and is individual (no one can have the same username). Talking about display name, it is displayed on your profile and mainly used so that your friends could identify you. Display name can be up to 50 characters.
Usernames are usually shortened versions of real name and surname, and usually people use their real full name and surname only in their display name. For example, John Johnson will probably use “Johnson1970” for username and “John Johnson” for display name.
